- 2. Applicants should hold a bachelor's degree or above.
- 3. English proficiency requirements for English-medium programs.Applicants should present a TOEFL iBT certificate with a score of 80 or above, or an IELTS (academic) certificate with an overall score of 6.0 or above. XMU's DI Code for TOEFL is C310. Applicants who have taken all courses in English during their bachelor's degree studies are exempt from this requirement, but a medium-of-instruction certificate from the University should be furnished. Native English speakers are exempt from this requirement.
Note: Foreign citizens of Chinese origin (including former Chinese citizens who have obtained foreign citizenships, as well as the non-Chinese descendants of present or former Chinese citizens) only after being officially recognized by the Division of Exit and Entry Administration of Public Security Bureau as foreign citizens, can they apply for Residence Permit in China and register their academic records as international students. Those who are not officially recognized as foreign citizens will have their qualification for enrolment revoked.

Program Description
Established in 1922, the Philosophy Department of Xiamen University was the earliest Philosophy Department in China's universities. In its history, many famous scholars used to teach in the Philosophy Department of Xiamen University, including Zhang Xi, Zhu Qianzhi, Deng Yizhe, etc. The Philosophy Department trained generations of best Chinese philosophers and made itself the center of philosophy education and research in the south of China.
The Philosophy Department owns a bachelor program of philosophy. In 2005, the Philosophy Department was authorized to award PHD of the primary discipline of philosophy. In 2007, the Philosophy Department established the Station for the Post-doctors of Philosophy Discipline with the approval of the Ministry of Education.
Post-doctors, doctoral students and master students are enrolled in all the eight subfields of Philosophy (Marxist Philosophy, Chinese Philosophy, Foreign Philosophy, Logics, Ethics, Aesthetics, Religious Studies and Philosophy of Science and Technology). The philosophy discipline was evaluated as Fujian Province leading disciplines.
The Philosophy Department was equipped with solid and abundant teaching resources,among which are 15 Ph.D. Supervisors. Since 1990s, philosophers of the department were funded by national social science funding, ministry of education and Fujian Province, published more than 200 books, including monographs and textbooks, and more than 2000 academic papers, the faculty of the Philosophy Department has won 4 national social science achievement prizes, and national book award, and more than 50 prizes of ministry of education, or Fujian Province.
Currently, the department is famous and influential for its studies of epistemology, normative theory, ancient Chinese thought of science of technology, Buddhism and Zhu-xi Studies.
In the bachelor program of philosophy, the main courses are Introduction to the basic principle of the Marx doctrine, Introduction to Philosophy, Logic, History of Western Philosophy, History of Chinese Philosophy, History of Marxist Philosophy, Readings of Western Philosophy, Readings of Chinese Philosophy, Readings of Marxist Philosophy, Modern Western Philosophy, Epistemology, Ethics, Philosophy of Science and Technology, Introduction to Esthetics, Introduction to Chinese Philosophy, Introduction to philosophy of humanities and social sciences, Studies of Zhou-yi, Culture of Chinese Ancient Strategy, Introduction to the development of Natural Science, Ancient Greek Philosophy, Philosophy of Management, etc. and there are some common required courses, including Foreign Language, Advanced Mathematics, The Foundation of Computer Application, Theories of Military, Ideological Moral Cultivation and Legal Foundation, etc.

*1. Bachelor’s degree certificate or Certificate of Expected Graduation, bearing the stamp of the university.
(1) Bachelor’s degree certificates should be certified by the educational authorities of the issuing country, or via the online service system (http://zwfw.cscse.edu.cn/) operated by the Overseas Education Service Center of China’s Ministry of Education.
(2) Graduating students of bachelor’s degree programs should provide a Certificate of Expected Graduation. They should obtain their bachelor’s degree certificate before their entry to XMU in September 2021.
(3) No certification is required for degree certificates obtained in the Chinese Mainland (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan).
(4) The originals of the degree certificates and certification documents should be made available for verification upon enrolment at XMU.*2. Academic transcripts for bachelor's degree studies, bearing the stamp of the University.
(1) Graduating students of bachelor’s degree programs should provide their academic transcripts for each year of undergraduate studies to date.
(2) Bachelor’s degree holders should submit a complete set of academic transcripts for bachelor’s degree studies.
(3) The results report of internationally accepted or standardized tests, e.g., GRE/GMAT/LSAT. XMU’s DI Code for GRE is 4692.*3. Study or research plan
The Plan should be no less than 1,000 words, written in Chinese when applying for Chinese-medium programs and written in English when applying for English-medium programs. Applicants for School of Economics or Wang Yanan Institute for Studies in Economics please refer to[Writing Guidance].

*5. A photocopy of Chinese Proficiency Certificate
A certificate of new HSK5 with 210 scores or above for programs in humanities, economics, management, law, arts and traditional Chinese medicine; a certificate of new HSK4 with 210 scores or above for programs in sciences, engineering and medicine.
*6. A photocopy of your valid passport
The passport should be valid through July 31, 2021.
*7. CV, completed in Chinese or English.
*8. Foreigner Physical Examination Form
Completed in Chinese or English, bearing the stamp of the hospital. Physical examination results are valid for 6 months.

Completed in Chinese or English, certifying that the applicant has sufficient funds to cover his or her tuition, accommodation, living expenses and international travels during his or her study in China. Only the applicant himself/herself or his/her family can act as a financial sponsor. The Statement should be accompanied by a copy of the financial sponsor’s valid passport or identification certificate. Applicants for scholarships are not exempt from this requirement.

The applicant shall submit a valid certificate of Non-Criminal Record issuedby the local public security authority, usually issued within 6 months prior to the submission date of the application.
